The Queen Of Beauty

BBC planning TV special with ‘Queer Eye’ vet Tan France

June 18 (UPI) — Queer Eye cast member Tan France is working on a one-hour, BBC TV special called Beauty and the Bleach.

“Taking on a subject close to his heart, which over the past year has been brought into sharp focus across the world, Tan will explore the issues around skin tone and colorism in society, as well as in the fashion, entertainment and beauty industries,” the British broadcaster said in a press release on Friday.

When France was 9, he attempted to lighten his skin with a bleaching product he found in a relative’s cupboard.

“I know that sadly my story isn’t unique, and so many people around the world have felt a burning desire to lighten their skin. But now is the time to question that. I want to find out why colorism is still so prevalent, and why people feel the need to change their skin color when it’s already beautiful,” France said in a statement.

“This film has the chance to show people they’re not alone, and that they can — and should — love the skin they’re in.”

No premiere date has been announced yet.

France, 38, is a fashion designer. He was born in England and is of Pakistani descent.

He has appeared on Netflix’s Queer Eye reboot since 2018.

In April, France announced that he and his husband, Rob, are expecting their first child via surrogate.
