The Queen Of Beauty

Beyond repair?

Beyond repair?

1st of all, wow! Wherever has summer months absent? How can it quite possibly be September now???

This is only heading to be a brief weblog, but I just required to share a minor repair task that I’ve been doing work on nowadays. The consumer to begin with sent me an e mail a handful of weeks back, as she’d been advised by a substantial street jeweller that her sentimental gold costume ring, was not in a position to be resized. Que that tiny evil little bit in my brain that just would like to prove them mistaken and demonstrate that it IS doable, and voila! Just one resized garnet and pearl costume ring. Yes, it IS a sensitive ring, so she’s not heading to be able to dress in it just about every day, but at minimum it now CAN be worn, relatively than becoming destined to sit in a box for good!

The ring in question - so beautiful!

The ring in problem – so beautiful!

It’s 9ct gold, established with garnets and pearls and is very sensitive, but absolutely not further than mend. It’s a “dress ring” and will under no circumstances have been supposed to be worn all of the time.

Size L1/2 and needs to be a size N

The ring shank has some sensitive engraving all around it, and mainly because it is a incredibly compact ring, the hallmark took up most of the available space, so I had to pick the place to make the lower extremely diligently.

Adding the new gold

Including the new gold

It is all many thanks to my Dado laser welder in this article. It meant that I could insert in a new portion of gold and “weld” it in spot with no risking heating (and ruining!) the pearls.

Cleaning up

Cleansing up

After the new piece of gold was welded, it was just a scenario of really very carefully cleaning up the joins.

Not forgetting the inside.

Not forgetting the within.

The newer gold alloy was a a bit various colour, but it’ll all blend in with a polish.

Ready to wear!

Prepared to have on!

Indeed, you can see the be part of if you seem closely, but in some cases it is not all about totally hiding the new portion. This ring was about preservation and building it wearable again.

Polished and ready for many more years!

Polished and prepared for many extra many years!

A “very” watchful polish so as not to destruction individuals sensitive pearls, or to take out to a great deal of the character. In my feeling, it’s ideal for an antique to look as these!
