Coronation Street explains missing character in Fiz wedding plot

Coronation Street has explained why Fiz Stape’s mum Cilla Battersby-Brown is missing from her daughter’s wedding celebrations as Fiz prepares to tie the knot with Phill Whittaker.

Viewers know that Fiz is currently preparing to marry her partner Phill later this week, leaving Tyrone Dobbs devastated in the process. As the celebrations got underway in tonight’s (July 4) episode, however, it wasn’t long before there was a mystery to solve, as someone set out to sabotage Fiz’s big day.

For Corrie fans though, the bigger question involved the absence of Fiz’s mum Cilla Brown from the wedding festivities – and fortunately Fiz was quick to explain Cilla’s absence while speaking to Tyrone.

“You know, Mimi has really made me appreciate Cilla,” Fiz told him.

“Are you sure there’s no way she can make it?” Tyrone then asked.

“No,” Fiz replied. “She says her osteoporosis is full on. And you know what? I believe her. Can you imagine Cilla passing up the opportunity to be mother of the bride?”

Cilla was played by actress Wendi Peters between 2003 and 2007, before she later reprised the role again for a six-week stint in 2014.

It’s not the first wedding that Cilla’s missed either, as back in 2018 Peters joked that her character hadn’t received an invite to her son Chesney Brown’s wedding when she wasn’t present for that ceremony either. In the soap, however, Cilla had actually taken ill, and Fiz was away looking after her.

Unfortunately for Fiz her mum’s absence isn’t the biggest thing on her mind this week. Not only did tonight’s episode see Evelyn and Mimi arguing and Phill’s ex-wife Camilla turn up unexpectedly, but Fiz was also left thrown when Tyrone shared his feelings with her.

“I’ve got something that I want to say,” Tyrone began. “I know that my timing’s lousy but I have to say it otherwise I won’t be able to live with myself… I still love you. And I think you still love me.”

“Ty, I’m marrying Phill in two days,” Fiz replied, only for Phill to interrupt before she could say more.

As Tyrone left, he urged her to think about what he said. What will Fiz do with Tyrone’s confession?
